The holidays can be a minefield of unhealthy choices, with opportunities for indulging around every corner. The American Heart Association wants to help you stay on track and provide easy ways to eat smart during the holiday season with the Holiday Eating Healthy Guide that can be found at

The guide includes what foods to add, and which ones to avoid; holiday beverage recipes; healthier holiday party ideas; ingredient swaps for traditional favorites that reduce calories, sugar and sodium; nutritious recipes you can take for family gatherings, holiday parties and more, reports Tim Harms, American Heart Association, Midwest Affiliate, Indianapolis, senior communications director.

Recipes range from Mom’s Roasted Turkey with Butternut Squash and Asparagus; Allspice-rubbed Pork Tenderloin with Cinnamon-sautéed Apples and Cilantro Rice; Broccoli Salad with Water Chestnuts and Dried Cranberries; and Cauliflower Mash; to Apple Bread Pudding; Pineapple Upside-Down Cake; Turkey Bacon and Spinach Quiche with Sweet Potato Crust and Festive Turkey Salad.
